Lucha Libre Poster Series Kick Off
So I’ve always thought it would be really fun to design and produce my own lucha libre masks and luchador characters for a series of illustrated posters.
Long story short…many strange coincidences have led me down this path and I’ve finally got everything lined up to make this fantasy a reality! The first character in the works is named ‘Oráculo’ and he is brought to life by world renown luchador Jay Rios and his mask and ring gear we’re hand sewn by the one and only ‘Lince Dorado’ - A luchador who was classically trained in the art of lucha libre and mask making by El Pantero in Mexico.
See below for the current process shots a of ’Oráculo’ (The Oracle). My friends and I have a lot planned for this project, so I’m excited to share the first steps with you guys as it starts to develop naturally. Stay tuned for more!
6-color, 18x24” signed & numbered posters are in the works and I’m planning a pre-order promotion soon. I know it’s a crazy idea and I’d love to hear your thoughts as this project takes shape and evolves!

Here at the Pale Horse studio, I can’t stop drawing aliens, mythical creatures, ancient civilizations, sacred geometry and religious icons. Along with my personal gallery work, the graphics I’ve produced for clients like NIKE, WWE, Mini Cooper, DC Comics and Hasbro are developed through a process of intricate line work and shading in Photoshop - a process Pale Horse has become best known for - which I’ll teach you in this class.
What You’ll Learn
You’ll learn how to create intricately designed graphics using no more than a basic graphics tablet and Adobe Photoshop. We’ll cover:
- Sketching. How to develop your rough concept digitally
- Line Work. How to execute tight line work in Photoshop
- Layering. How to use layers to create clean and versatile art files in Photoshop
- Shading. How to shade and color your work in Photoshop
I’ll also cover tips and tricks for specific brush settings you’ll find useful for this class and any other Photoshop projects you embark on.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be able to apply these skills immediately to a piece of artwork of your own by creating a mandala - a basic and beautiful geometric pattern which you can make as intricate and colorful as you please.
